CSS exam to be in Urdu next yearHigh Court Decision

The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has been directed by the Lahore High Court to conduct the 2018 Central Superior Services (CSS) examination in Urdu, which is the national language.

Petition to court

A lawyer, Saifur Rehman, petitioned the court for this change.  Justice Atir Mahmood ordered the change for the 2018 examinations, but not for 2017.

Transfer from English to Urdu

In the court proceedings, counsel for the FPSC told the court that the arrangements for the change of language had been made.  The FPSC had constituted a committee and would give its recommendation, and the same issue had been taken to the Higher Education Commission.

The Judge’s Decision

Justice Mahmood directed the commission to ensure that the next CSS examination be in the Urdu language.  Although the petitioner, Saifur Rehman, wanted the 2017 examination in Urdu as well, the Justice denied this given that there was insufficient time for this to be organized.

A final note

The Supreme Court had directed the change of language in 2015.  The petitioner also noted that it was not made clear each year that the examination would be in English.
