German Refugees Learn German From A Robot

Scientists in Germany are using a robot to teach the huge numbers of refugees the new language, German.

The robot is called Nao, and he resembles a storm trooper like those seen in Star Wars.  He wears a white spacesuit and has cameras, microphone, sensors, and lots of other features.  He dances and is typical of the robots famous from the Shanghai expo some years ago.

Before Nao con do anything he must be programmed to do it.  He is programmed with vocabulary, grammar and other language skills, but more importantly, he has been programmed with social competencies, making this development very different from other computer language learning apps.
