The Pakistani government is making determined efforts to digitalise the Pakistani economy.
PayPal in Pakistan
The Minister for Commerce, Khurram Dastgir Khan, announced that the government was in the process of working with PayPal so they could begin their operations in Pakistan.
Minister Khan was speaking to the business community at the Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association about the government’s efforts to digitalise the economy. The government is showing its determination to achieve this by first dealing with PayPal.
Other online payment options
The minister explained that although the government is currently working with PayPal, they are also working towards starting other services with international payment gateways.
The State Bank of Pakistan is at present supervising the process of providing the legislation necessary to allow these international payments.

A boost to trade and exports in Pakistan
Commerce minister, Khurram Dastgir Khan, explained how the government was making all efforts to continue to improve economic stability in Pakistan. In order to do this effectively and efficiently, and to boost the trade and exports in Pakistan, the business community is being included in the process so we can ensure we have continuity in our trade, export and economic policies. Minister Khan stressed that the government is aware of difficulties in this sector and is making every effort to resolve these issues to everyone’s satisfaction.
The Growth of e-Commerce in Pakistan
In addition to smoothing the path for e-Commerce in Pakistan, special commercial consuls are being appointed to foreign missions. The special staff have been charged with the task of improving performance for the facilitating of exports. Regular feedback from both local exporters and the consular commercial staff will be reported to the Minister.
CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor)
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would open further possibilities in the area of trade and export between business leaders in Pakistan and China. Then government will be organising awareness-raising seminars on CPEC in all industrial cities in Pakistan. The Minister stressed that this grand project was opening a myriad of possibilities for the promotion and strengthening of business activities between Pakistan and China.
